{Recipe} Celebrate the 4th with Red, White, & Blue Trifle Dessert!

Okay, so I know this isn't one of your "genius" recipes...but sometimes its the simplest, easiest things that we sometimes don't think of. :-) Maybe you've been on the look out for FESTIVE 4th of July dessert - well here you go! This is definitely FESTIVE AND its as EASY as you want to make it! :-) The variations to this dessert are endless! :-)

Easy-Breezy 4th of July Trifle Dessert Recipe

You'll need:
1 Trifle or Deep Clear Glass Bowl/Dish - the size I used for this recipe is 8" diameter by 4 1/2" deep

4 cups sliced strawberries
3-4 heaping tablespoons of sugar
3-4 cups fresh blueberries
1 Pre-made Angel Food Cake (OR a regular white cake would work too!)
1 Tub COOL WHIP (I made my own though- see below for directions!)

For Whipping Cream:
1 pint or 2 cups of heavy whipping cream (OR you can just use COOL WHIP to make it super simnple)
2 teaspoons vanilla (preferrably the clear kind - I get mine in Mexico and it keeps the whipped cream nice and white)
1/4 -1/2 cups sugar (to taste)

1). Mix the sliced strawberries with the tablespoons of sugar and set aside until sugar is disolved.

2). Mix the ingredients for the whipped cream if you are making from scratch on HIGH with electric mixer. I put my Kitchen Aid bowl into the fridge before so its nice and chilly before mixing my whipping cream. Just whip on HIGH until its the texture of whipped cream. For the sugar - you can start out with 1/4 cup and add sugar to your sweetness liking. :-)

2). Place 1 layer of Angel Food Cake about 1 inch thick on bottom of trifle bowl. I tried cutting it in pieces but it seemed to work better if you just tear with your hands. Try placing the WHITE insides so they show from outside of bowl instead of the crust-colored part of the cake.

3). For the next layer ~ use 1/2 the strawberries mix and completely cover the first layer of Angel Food Cake.

4). Next layer ~ Use 1/2 whipped cream and spread over strawberries

5). Next layer ~ Use 1/2 blueberries and spread evenly over whipped cream

6). Next layer ~ Angel Food Cake (same as before)

7). Next layer ~ use rest of strawberries and layer on top of Angel Food Cake

8). Next layer ~ use rest of whipped cream and layer on top of strawberries

9). Next layer ~ use rest of blueberries - if too many - just kind of pile on top of whipped cream

10). I used halves of strawberries to make a "star" on top. You can do whatever you like though to make it pretty!

For variations:
*Use raspberries instead of strawberries
*Use blackberries instead of blueberries
*Use WHITE cake instead of Angel Food Cake
*Use Cherry Filling instead of strawberries with blueberry pie filling instead of fresh blueberries

Sorry about the picture below- its not the best...but you get the idea! :-)
ENJOY and HAPPY 4th of JULY!!
